AMDOCS: Documents for the Study of American History.
Texts of primary documents related to the study of American history dating from the medieval era to the present can be browsed within historical time categories.

The ARDA: Association of Religion Data Archives.
This site provides extensive survey information about U.S. religious beliefs and practices. The site also provides country profiles dealing with religion and permits comparisons for up to eight countries.

The Avalon Project: Documents in Law, History and Diplomacy.
World-history texts of primary documents from 4000 BCE to the present can be located by browsing within historical time categories. Separate links lead to a small set of themed-documents collections (for example, “Human Rights”).

BBC Languages.
Links lead to extensive language resources for French, Spanish, Italian, and German that include television and games as well as the expected dictionaries and grammars. Basic resources are available for Chinese, Greek, and Portuguese.

Biology Online.
This well-organized biology site allows general searching, searching by tool type, and browsing. Tools include a dictionary, articles, tutorials, a forum, and a directory to related sites.

EarthTrends: Environmental Information.
This portal brings together environmental, social, and economic factors in reports, country profiles, maps, and data tables. Free registration is required after three searches.

Encyclopedia Mythica.
Articles, a bestiary, genealogies, and images from mythology and folklore from around the world are included in this online encyclopedia. Resources can be browsed within category by country.

Eric Weissteins' World of Science.
This site contains extensive resources in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and astronomy. Scientific biographies are included as a separate area.

globalEDGE.
Economic business information that is organized by country, state (U.S.), and industry is included in this database. Diagnostic tools are available with free registration.

Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History.
Everything the history-of-art student needs. World maps, time lines, thematic essays, biographies, and images of works of art are available through browsing, drop-down menus, and a general search box.

IMSLP/Petrucci Music Library.
Sheet music and recordings of public-domain music and music from composers who are willing to share without charge are available here. Music may be searched or browsed by name, country, or time period.

Internet Archive.
This site provides permanent access to searchable historical digital collections of text, moving images, audio, and special projects (e.g., “Wayback Machine”).

Library of Congress Digital Collections.
Nine extensive digital American collections with print, pictorial, and audiovisual resources can be searched or browsed at this site. A link to international collections is also included.

Pew Internet & American Life Project.
This site explores American life through reports, surveys, and statistics on activities and pursuits, demographics, and technology and media. Data sets can be downloaded for SPSS.

Plants Database.
Images, characteristics, and distribution information for plants in the U.S. and its territories are included in this database. Searching is made easy through a variety of options and includes both scientific and common names.

Poetry Foundation.
This database of poems and related resources, including readings, interviews, articles, and essays, can be both searched and browsed. Some resources include audio or video.

The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL).
This site provides assistance with examples for writing papers in MLA and APA formats. Separate pages focus on the needs of high-school and college students.

U.S. Census Bureau American FactFinder.
Population, housing, economic, and geographic data about the U.S. can be searched with simple or advanced options. Data may be downloaded. Assistance is available through FAQs and online chat.

Wolfram Alpha.
An extremely useful computational-knowledge engine that can calculate a mean, generate comparisons between sports teams, provide the calendar for any year, and give historical weather information. The Examples button leads to the numerous categories that are covered.

The World FactBook.
Standardized information is available for 266 countries and locations using a drop-down menu. Entries contain brief sections on history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues.
