Summer Starts Early for Teens at Beach Bag Book Club


Sign up for a Bech Bag Book Club today! Grab a beach bag, available at the Teen/Media desk; relax by the pool or at the beach with a book and come for a cozy gathering at the Merrick Library to discuss summer reads with popular authors. We guarantee lots of fun; give away prizes, snack, raffles, and book sale. Beach Bag Book Club opens its doors on June 20.
Our next meeting is on July 25 @4:15p.m.

Summer Reading Club 


June 18-August 23


Take Action-READ!

When you sign up for the Summer Reading Club and submit a book review you’ll receive a bracelet or other prize purchased from a non-profit organization.
This summer each book you read is your contribution for change.
In addition to prizes for each submitted book review you will be able to enter our Weekly Raffles.
At the end of the summer, all participants of the Summer Reading Club will be eligible to enter
 the Grand Prize Summer Raffle.


Summer Reading Club:
Who: Open for Merrick Library Patrons in grades 6-12
What: The idea is that you read books (that you choose) and get prizes purchased from a non-profit organizations.
Where: Sign up at the Teen/Media Desk
When: June 18-August 23

Submit one book review and receive a bracelet from Reason2Smile

2nd review mini notebook from Make a Wish Foundation

3rd review a bracelet from One is Greater than None organization

4th review and 5th review a book of your choice for your to keep and one book will be donated to new library in Kenya.









NEW! Book Bag for Sleep Away Camp
If you are planning to spend a few weeks at Sleep Away camp do not forget to take a backpack with fun summer reads that we prepared for you. This bag can be checked out for the whole summer (June 1-August 30). The amount of bags are limited and available on first come first serve basis. Merrick Residents only.

 Beach Bag Book Club opens its doors on June 20.
  
Our monthly meetings will take place at the Merrick Library.
Time: 4:15-5:30 p.m. Registration begins on May 23.

Summer Volunteer Programs
 Community Service Credits will be
 Awarded for Volunteer Programs

Summer Reading Club Volunteers 8-12 Graders
Volunteers will help to review summer reading reports and give away prizes in the Children’s Room. Volunteers must be availablefor at least two hours a week from11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., 2:00-4:00 p.m. or 6:00-8:00 p.m. from June 25-August 15. Applicants must be available for the training session on June 19 at 6:30-7:00p.m. Sign up limited to 20 volunteers only.

iPod Donation Drive
Do you have an iPod you’re not using anymore? We need them!
During this summer we are collecting old iPods for Music & Memory . This non-profit organization  brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly or the infirm through digital music technology, vastly improving their quality of life. iPods can be dropped off at the Teen/Media Desk starting June 1-August 23.
